Matthias Sablotny

Matthias Sablotny is a naval architect with 35 years of experience. He started as a class surveyor with Lloyd’s Register (LR) inspecting new buildings including auditing the yard’s quality assurance scheme and specialized in the classification of mega-yachts as a project manager on site and soon became Lead Yacht Surveyor for Germany and Senior Surveyor in Charge of the Bremen and Bremerhaven Office. Finally he was promoted to Principal Specialist for Yachts and Passenger Ships for the Central European Area. In this position he supervised Lloyd’s Register’s activities on all yacht-building shipyards in the area. Resulting from new knowledge about materials used in the mega-yacht industry, Mr. Sablotny became an expert on fire load calculations and certification of materials, giving numerous workshops and presentations.

As a member of LR’s International Yacht Focus Group, comprising LR experts, Flag State Authorities, European shipyards and other clients, Mr. Sablotny joined the group’s frequent meetings and substantially contributed to the theoretical and practical side of the discussions. Common interpretation of international and class requirements, change of existing rules, developments of new requirements and exchange of information were on the agenda.

Since his retirement with Lloyd’s Register, Mr. Sablotny offers his wealth of experience in the application of relevant international and class Rules and Regulations during the development, the building phase and after delivery of yachts and passenger ship projects.

Ships are the nearest thing to dreams that hands have ever made.
